Something Special, a Lesbian Venture 

WE ARE LESBIANS DEDICATED TO KEEPING LESBIAN CULTURE STRONG, VIBRANT AND ALIVE.            

We are two lesbians who have been given charge of this lesbian venture for the time being.  We have been lovers, friends and partners in a variety of situations for the past 45 years. We have been a part of Something Special,alv.in Miami, Fla. for twenty-one years.  Something Special, alv. was born out of the needs of us lesbian wimmin who wanted and insisted on having a place and space to gather together, socialize, converse, economize, and politicize with other lesbians and wimmin. A place free of as many dividing factors as possible - a place to be lesbian/wimmin and in womyn-only space. All of us agree that FOOD is an intense political/social/economic force to be reckoned with and that is the reason for the decision to be vegetarian/vegan and wimmin-only. Realizing that Something Special, alv is a group and community based venture, we accept the reality that this venture is absolutely impossible to continue without the concerted efforts of all the wimmin in the communities who keep her afloat, and that without their efforts there would be no Something Special, alv. 

Our Intent

Our aim is to help lesbians and wimmin understand how wimmin-only space along with foods affect attitudes and how services and monies can be exchanged in a creative manner. We make every effort to access organically grown foods, and locally grown organics from the yards of  local wimmin growers.
