Something Special, alv is a conglomorate of ideas put together by lesbians for lesbians. Those ideas include providing a cultural, social, political and work space for formulating thoughts and actions (as unconventional wimmin) toward dealing within and without a system that is politically and socially at odds with our way of being, feeling and thinking. Just one of the many ways we deal with all of this is to provide a unique dining experience for wimmin, serving vegetarian meals in our private home, offering "wimmin-only" space with an ambiance of Lesbian culture. Hours are from six until ten p.m. - Wednesdays through Sundays.

Enjoy an evening of leisure while your meal is being prepared especially for you. Our blackboard menu changes weekly and offers an array of choices, from light fare to exotic full course meals. Reservations are not required. Calls are always appreciated.

The cost of your meal is left to your discretion and you are free to bring your favorite beverage. Join us, also, at our Equinox & Solstice gatherings with a gourmet buffet, fire circle and drumming under the stars.

Recipe: Tomato Pie and from our Chef in Provence

    Bonjour,

ImageMany of our guests to Provence have requested me to get recipes from the chef: the tomato pie.
I must admit that the food in Provence is divine: fresh products, olive oil, herbs of Provence,...It is all good!!!!

    Tomato Pie :
On the dough, spread a spoonful of mustard (Maille).
Cut thin slices of tomato and put them on top.
Add some salt and pepper, some olive oil and “herbes de Provence”.
Bake in oven for 30 minutes .

    Bon appetit!

RAW:

Since the consumption of  Raw Foods has become more and more a topic of discussion, we have decided to  use this column to do just that, Raw food eaters, often called  Foodists, follow as many different ideas about the eating, preparation, and accessing of foods as do Vegetarians and Vegans.  Some  ideas are about: the tempertures that food can be prepared and still be considered raw. , We make it our business to eat some raw foods every day, we do eat cooked vegetarian and vegan foods.

There is information on all kinds of raw ideas on the internet and are easy to access, should you be interested.

Our intent here is simple:

Food for Health of Body, Mind and Spirit, and in a RAW  WAY

And in the Words of  Adelle Davis; We are indeed much more than what we eat, but what we eat can nevertheless help us to be much more than what we are.

A Simple Raw Recipe: Tomato and cuke salad.

 You will need:

2 medium organic red tomatoes.(let one be riper than the other).

1 Small bunch of organic red and green, lettuce.

1-3 small cloves of organic garlic.

1 medium organic cuke.

Juice of l-2 key limes (or any lime/lemon available).

Dash of celtic sea salt and cayenne

Wash all veggies well, and allow to drain dry or spin dry.

Break lettuce up with hands in desired pieces, slice tomatoes and cukes, finely chop garlic and add to veggies, add salt and cayenne, toss, cover with lime juice, toss again. EAT and ENJOY.

WE WILL USE THIS SPACE TO TELL YOU OF NEW FOODS (New to us) and how we enjoyed or not, if you have new foods you would like us to know about let us know.

This food is known as:

SWEET PEA TENDRILS:

Now we know you know what sweet peas are, so do we and no this is not the first time we tasted sweet peas, but sweet pea tendrils, yes this is the first time. How this happened: We ordered some orgnanic sweet peas for sprouting, we did not like the way they sprouted, so we planted some in the garden,we got beautiful sweet peas and of course their tendrils, we cut them and ate them fresh, better than sprouts, full of chloraphyll, great on salads, sandwitches, and by themselves. We love them, should you get a chance to taste some, do.
